After another year of hard work on the TBS website (www.tbsmerchants.co.uk) we were a finalist at the national builders merchant awards for excellence held in London, nominated for website of the year. We were recognised for the website’s ability to interact with customers including product listings and pictures, account pricing, and being able to order online.

After a train journey down (including a tube journey in the traditional style of a tin of sardines) I arrived at the Lancaster Hotel just outside Hyde park. The ceremony itself was well attended, with 400 of the top players in the builders merchant industry at the venue. The lunch was superb and then BBC sports presenter John Inverdale hosted the awards ceremony. He was an excellent choice, as he kept the gathering amused with his anecdotes, posed with winners and stayed after the event to chat to guests, winners, runners-up and sponsors.

We were thrilled to win the award as we went up against much bigger companies than ourselves, and proudly took home the trophy. In a predominantly middle aged setting it was great to see youth featuring in the awards (including myself) – showing the future of the builders merchant trade is in safe hands.
