Tip from the Trade: Waterproofing a Bitumen RoofJanuary 24, 2017
Got a flat roof to re-seal? Bear in mind that cooler, wetter conditions can affect the chemical reactions of certain products.
So here’s a tip from Colin, technical adviser at our supplier, Bostik:
“When the weather’s warm and dry, you can happily use water-based (emulsion) waterproofer on your bitumen roof. That way, you don’t get the smell, there’s no fire risk, and you can clean your brushes in water.
“But when there’s rain in the air, you really have to go over to solvent-based products. Heavy rain will wash away a proportion of emulsion-based waterproofing, ruining your hard work and leaving the roof vulnerable.”
TBS Sales advisers will be happy to advise you on the various types of waterproofer we stock for bitumen roofs.
